Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Completion of a Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE)-approved Teacher Assistant Pre-Employment Training Program.
• Passing score of 461 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment.
• Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education.
• Associate degree or higher.
Exceptions:
• Employed as a teacher assistant before January 1, 1999.
• Certified as a teacher assistant in another state.
• Possess an associate or bachelor's degree with coursework or training consistent with teacher assistant program standards.

• Pass state and federal background checks.
Responsibilities:
• Assist classroom teachers with instructional support and classroom activities
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce learning
• Support students with special needs, following IEP accommodations and behavior plans
• Supervise students in various settings (classroom, hallway, cafeteria, playground, field trips)
• Help prepare learning materials and maintain a clean, organized classroom environment
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning atmosphere
• Assist students with personal or behavioral needs when necessary
• Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in all school interactions
• Demonstrate dependability, flexibility, and a consistent commitment to student success
• Attend required meetings and professional development sessions
• Other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or school administrator
