About the Job: 

Position Overview: 

We are seeking experienced in-person tutors to provide one-on-one instruction in math, science, reading, writing, and test preparation for middle and high school students (Grades 6–12). As a SiSTEM tutor, you will help students strengthen foundational skills, prepare for standardized tests, and develop critical thinking abilities essential for future academic and professional success. SiSTEM will handle all of the marketing for you. You provide your skills and availability and SiSTEM will provide you with students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver engaging, personalized in-person tutoring sessions across core academic subjects and test prep.
• Create customized learning plans tailored to individual student needs and goals.
• Provide support for standardized exams (STAAR, SAT, PSAT, ACT, AP exams, ISEE/SSAT, GED, etc.)
• Track and document student progress with consistency and care.
• Communicate regularly with parents, students, and the SiSTEM team.
• Adapt teaching strategies to fit different learning styles.

Required Qualifications:

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Education, a subject area (Math, Science, English, etc.), or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years teaching or tutoring experience in any of the following areas:
  • Math : 6th Grade Math, 7th Grade Math, 8th Grade Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Statistics, Calculus.
  • Science : 6th Grade Science, 7th Grade Science, 8th Grade Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science.
  • English/ELA : 6th Grade ELAR, 7th Grade ELAR, 8th Grade ELAR, Reading comprehension, Writing, Grammar, Literature, Essay Writing.
  • Test Prep : SAT, ACT, PSAT, AP exams, STAAR, ISEE/SSAT, GED and STAAR.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for in-person teaching.
• Ability to motivate and build confidence in students.
• Reliable transportation to tutoring locations.
• Available to tutor in the late afternoon, weeknights, and some weekends.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's Degree.
• State teaching certification or formal educational training.
• Experience with project-based or inquiry-based learning approaches.
• Multilingual capabilities (Spanish strongly preferred).
