Job Title: Wellness Counselor (4/5th- 4 days/ week, Tues - Friday)

Department: Counseling

Reports To: Assistant Head of School for Academics

FLSA Status: Exempt/Salaried Employee

Summary:

Within the context of the tradition and charism of the Sisters of Mercy, supportive of the Mission and Values of Mercy High School and Catholic Church teachings and doctrine, the Wellness Counselor is responsible for supporting and improving the wellness program and student counseling at Mercy High School.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

To perform the job successfully, the individual must possess the ability to perform as part of team and have excellent interpersonal skills; have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of audiences; have strong organizational skills and be detail-oriented, with the ability to multitask and meet multiple deadlines.

In addition, the Wellness Counselor must be able to meet the following expectations:

● Provides short-term individual counseling to students as needed. Sets appropriate boundaries for length of time for individual sessions and term of sessions. Reviews Informed Consent, upholds best practices of confidentiality and communicates those expectations to students and parents.

● Refers students to outside support as appropriate. Collaborates with outside providers when a Release of Information is secured and partnership is appropriate.

● Leads crisis intervention including follow-through on all CPS protocol. Trains new faculty on the mandated reporter protocols through the New Faculty Program. Provides ongoing training to faculty as needed.

● Maintains relationships with local therapists and keeps an updated referral sheet.

● Organizes and files all release forms from therapists, psychiatrists, etc., maintaining proper confidentiality.

● Mediates student conflicts.

● Creates and implements a wellness curriculum to develop the whole person throughout four years of student experience. Update curriculum as needed, communicating it to faculty and staff annually.

● Inbound all socioemotional issues/needs with the Admissions Team.

● Partners with teachers to provide student instruction in health and wellness topics appropriate at each grade level (ie. helping seniors prepare for the transition of graduation and college entrance).

● Partners with academic counselors and other relevant school officials to share important therapeutic information that may affect students' performance at school.

● Leads small group support offerings for grief, social support, and other relevant concerns.

● Conducts skill-building workshops: managing test anxiety, relaxation techniques, etc.

● Runs 2 Wellness Weeks per year including a Self Care Fair as part of the scheduled activities.

● Responds to teacher concerns about student wellness, maintaining confidentiality as needed.

● Hosts parent information nights about relevant developmental topics on supporting their teenage daughter. Contributes to the Parent Education Series.

● Coordinates with school administration on student concerns.

● Attends AMES education plan meetings when appropriate.

● Serves on the student life committee.

● Supports the Admissions Committee as needed.

● Supports Career Day planning and day of event

● Teach one Health and Wellness section per semester. Represents the school at professional counseling organizations and workshops.

● Willingness and availability to undertake co-curricular responsibilities, including supervision of extracurricular activities

● Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Head of School and Head of School.

Has direct supervisory responsibilities for the following faculty and staff:

Minimal qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

● School counseling or related master’s degree

● Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor strongly preferred

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

● Strong Google Suite skills

● Strong computer and SMS/SLS skills

● Prior work experience in school setting Position requires candidates to be on campus for training and orientation the first week of August.

Salary and benefits

Full-time, year-round benefited position. Position includes school holidays. Salary based on 4/5th pay that commensurates with experience and education of the applicant. Four day work week salary range is $70,000-90,000) All resume materials should be received by Thursday, April 9, 2025.

Pay: $62,838.22 - $80,399.60 per year
