Aspira Technical Operations Department

Within the Aspira Data Platform department the database administration team manages Aspira’s Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and PostgreSQL database systems. Our DBAs devise, deploy, and maintain highly available, performant, and resilient solutions to ensure some of the company’s most valuable assets are accessible, secure, and adaptable to the company’s dynamic requirements. The database team works closely with our System Engineering, Security, Development, and Customer Management teams to provide best in class solutions to address the data needs of Aspira’s customer base, our partners, and our internal teams alike.

Position Purpose and Impact

Aspira’s Database Manager is a resource that manages, maintains, and secures data in one or more data systems that enable users and applications to perform critical business operations. Responsible for owning the data storage, compute infrastructure, organization, presentation, utilization, and security for each of the database systems for the company, which span development through to production environments, and from internal only through to customer facing environments. Playing a critical role in ensuring the backbone to countless systems remains functional and available, and enabling Aspira’s systems and users to perform their given roles, incumbent spearheads position to achieve annual department goals and key performance indicators (KPIs).

Responsibilities

Maintenance and Support

• Design, develop, and maintain Oracle, SQL databases and PostgreSQL to meet business requirements
• Manage ETL tools like oracle golden gate, clover and report tools like Jasper soft
• Perform database tuning and optimization to ensure high performance and availability
• Implement and manage database security measures to protect sensitive data
• Monitor and troubleshoot database issues, ensuring timely resolution
• Collaborate with software developers, system administrators, and other stakeholders to support database-related projects
• Develop and maintain documentation for database design, implementation, and maintenance procedures
• Conduct regular database backups and recovery operations
• Stay up-to-date with the latest database technologies, trends, and best practices

Cloud-Based Solutions on AWS

• Architect and deploy scalable, cloud-based database solutions leveraging AWS services such as RDS, DynamoDB, Redshift, and S3. 
• Utilize AWS CloudFormation or Terraform for automating infrastructure provisioning and management.
• Use AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) for seamless data migration across different database platforms.
• Build and maintain serverless applications using AWS Lambda and API Gateway.

Management

• Oversee a small team of DBAs, managing task assignments and approvals.
• Evaluate DBA work and conduct guidance meetings.
• Lead DBA projects by defining tasks, assigning responsibilities, and coordinating with other teams.
• Plan upcoming DBA tasks and allocate resources accordingly.
• Track and manage costs associated with various data resources.
• Facilitate sprint planning and lead scrum meetings.
• Be available for emergency pager duty and oversee 24/7 support operations.

AI and Advanced Analytics

• Design and implement AI-driven solutions to enhance database performance, enable predictive analytics, and detect anomalies.
• Build, deploy, and integrate machine learning and deep learning models for structured and unstructured data analysis using frameworks.
• Develop structured data analysis models to drive decision-making, customer engagement, and operational efficiency.

Data Engineering and Development

• Develop and maintain optimized database queries and workflows using SQL, PL/SQL, and Python.
• Design and deploy APIs using GraphQL for efficient database querying and integration.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of database designs, implementations, and maintenance procedures.

Desired Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or other related discipline.
• 15+ years of experience with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server) and modern NoSQL solutions (DynamoDB, Redshift).
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS RDS for Oracle, DynamoDB, and snowflake.
• Experience with database security and data protection measures
• Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and Python for database management and analytics.
• Advanced knowledge of database security, performance tuning, and optimization.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services like CloudFormation, DMS, CloudWatch.
• Expertise in designing and deploying machine learning models for structured data analysis.
• Strong familiarity with GraphQL for API development will be plus.
• Knowledge of ETL tools, data warehousing, and Big Data technologies.
• Knowledge of Oracle golden gate and clover.
