Job Description

Our client, a national marketing and advertising agency in Chicago, is looking for a Business Director who will serve as a strategic leader and trusted advisor to clients, overseeing key accounts and driving the successful delivery of integrated marketing and advertising initiatives. This role requires a strong command of agency operations, client management, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure programs are executed flawlessly and aligned with business goals. The Business Director will lead account teams, guide client strategy, identify growth opportunities, and maintain high standards of creative and operational excellence. This person will play a pivotal role in strengthening client relationships, elevating the agency’s value, and ensuring the agency delivers measurable impact across campaigns and brand platforms.
  • This is a hybrid role and requires 3-days/week onsite in Chicago.
  • Salary: $150-250k
Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day client relationships, acting as the senior point of contact and ensuring exceptional partnership, communication, and delivery.
  • Drive strategic planning and provide thought leadership to help clients achieve their marketing, brand, and business objectives.
  • Oversee the development and execution of integrated campaigns across channels including digital, social, content, experiential, broadcast, and print.
  • Partner with creative, strategy, media, and production teams to deliver cohesive and on-brief work.
  • Manage account financials, including forecasting, scoping, budgeting, and profitability.
  • Identify and pursue organic growth opportunities through proactive recommendations and solutions.
  • Mentor and guide account team members, ensuring professional development and fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture.
  • Present strategic plans, campaign recommendations, and performance results to senior client stakeholders.
  • Ensure operational excellence across all projects, optimizing processes and removing roadblocks to deliver on time and on budget.
  • Monitor industry and competitive trends to inform client strategies and agency thought leadership.
Qualifications
  • 10-15+ years of marketing or advertising agency experience in client services, account management, or business leadership roles.
  • Proven experience leading large integrated accounts and managing cross-functional teams.
  • Strong strategic thinking abilities with a track record of shaping and driving effective marketing solutions.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Deep understanding of brand strategy, campaign development, digital ecosystems, and performance marketing.
  • Demonstrated success managing budgets, scopes, and financial performance.
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders and navigate complex client or business challenges.
  • Highly organized, solution-oriented, and comfortable working in fast-paced environments.
  • Experience mentoring and developing talent within account teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
