Job Description

Job Description and Duties

Are you passionate about public safety and community outreach? Are you a detail-oriented professional with a passion for public service? Do you have experience with grants or contracts? Are you motivated by work that has a real-world impact? Join the Earthquake, Tsunami, and Volcano Program and play a pivotal role in supporting California’s preparedness and resilience against seismic hazards.

About the Role

We are looking for an organized and mission-driven Associate Governmental Program Analyst (AGPA) to join our team in support of one of California’s most vital public safety initiatives. This position is ideal for someone with experience in contracts and grants management who wants to contribute to projects that help protect communities across the state. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals that are looking to transition into emergency management.

In this role, you will:

  • Support the administration of grants and contracts that fund cutting-edge seismic hazard research, community preparedness programs, and seismic resilience and mitigation.
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal partners, researchers, and community-based organizations.
  • Help plan and support public education and outreach events, bringing critical preparedness messaging to Californians across diverse regions.
  • Track and manage budgets, timelines, and reporting requirements to ensure program compliance and effectiveness.
  • Assist with internal planning, procurement, and program evaluation efforts that keep our work transparent and accountable.

Why This Work Matters

While you do not need direct experience in seismic hazards, your work will directly support efforts that save lives and reduce risk from earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes in California. From helping communities prepare for “The Big One,” to supporting initiatives that improve alerting systems and emergency response readiness, the work you do behind the scenes enables California to better face the natural hazards that exist in our communities.

What We Offer:

  • A chance to contribute to meaningful, high-impact work that enhances California’s safety and preparedness.
  • A supportive team environment with opportunities to learn and grow.
  • Competitive salary and benefits as part of California state service.
  • Flexibility, including potential for hybrid work arrangements.

Be a Part of Something Bigger

Join a mission-driven team working every day to reduce risk and increase readiness. Your attention to detail, grants knowledge, and commitment to public service can help strengthen California's resilience against seismic hazards.
